Being/Becoming: Dualities of a Sketchbook Practice explores sketchbook keeping as a sustained practice of attention, curiosity, and presence, where discipline meets play, repetition creates novelty, and observation exists alongside imagination. Presented collectively, selected pages from a year of sketchbook practice reveal patterns and connections across time, reflecting the self as layered, contradictory, unfinished, and continually becoming.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Ann E. Zimmerman is an artist, art therapist, and educator. Her artwork explores themes of identity, relationships, and existential realities. As an art therapist, Zimmerman facilitates art therapy for neurodivergent children. With 15 years of higher-education experience, she currently teaches drawing at Augsburg University.
